Sindh High Court Issues Notices for MDCAT Retake Following Students’ Appeal

A division bench consisting of Justice Salahuddin Panhwar and Justice Amjad Ali Sahito issued notices to the Sindh Health Secretary, Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC), Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS), and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) for a hearing on October 9.

Mohammad Shabbir Ahmed, along with 14 other candidates, filed a petition with the Sindh High Court (SHC), claiming that DUHS organized the MDCAT in Sindh on September 22. The petitioners alleged that multiple papers containing leaked information were shared on social media a day before the exam, raising serious concerns about the exam’s integrity, fairness, and transparency.

They further argued that the results circulating on social media showed an unusually high number of students scoring 199 out of 200 in the MDCAT 2024-25, marking a first-time occurrence in the exam’s history.

The petitioners highlighted that the administration of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University had approached the SSP Larkana to register a case against individuals involved in the alleged cheating and irregularities during the test. Additionally, the university had formed an internal committee to investigate these discrepancies.

The petitioners recalled that the MDCAT held last year was similarly compromised, but the authorities failed to learn from their mistakes. Despite a thorough investigation into last year’s paper leak, no substantial actions were taken, raising concerns about the accountability of those involved.

Citing a previous judgment by the SHC on the same issue, the petitioners urged the court to order an MDCAT Retake and declare the September 22 exam null and void. They also requested the suspension of the test results, a halt to the admission process, and the formation of a joint investigation team to thoroughly investigate the matter.
